There are approximately 30,000 secondary schools in the US. One unbalanced student shot up a secondary school and killed 17 students. This very rare event set in motion the usual frenzy by the leftist press to greatly alter our rights under the Second Amendment of our country. So what else is new ??!!! We’ve seen it all before. The response is, of course, the predictable “never let a crises go to waste.” But is it a crisis that cool reason should be stampeded by? No. What happened is sad, very sad, but to get on the emotional roller coaster that the left wing press would have us jump on is unwise. The press lives by these tragedies garnering audience share and readership, but they present to us a picture lacking in context in order to achieve political goals. How many secondary school students were killed in sports related activities, in school bus accidents, in non firearms murders in schools, in car crashes etc. Last year the NSC estimated that 40,200 people died on our roads. How many were secondary school students. The press shows us a very opportunistic feature of our culture pulling on our heartstrings to achieve political ends. It is odd that major users of the First Amendment should try to diminish the amendment that is the backstop for preventing a dictatorship in the USA that would surely curtail the freedom of the press. What do your rational faculties lead you to think about this?
