The debate over Immigration

The issue of immigration, whether there should be any or not is a subject of reasonable debate. I happen to thing and have demonstrated that allowing more people into the country as permanent residents, citizen or not, is a bad idea. Notwithstanding, if you believe we should be allowing more people in, you cannot possibly defend allowing some to jump the queue in front of those who have applied for legal admission and waiting their turn.

I liken it to a theater owner who allows people to cut the line and when your turn come find you will not be admitted because there are no more seats and standing room is not allowed.

Why I strenuously oppose immigration of any kind is the fact that for every person added to the population, nearly two acres of agricultural land has to be put in production to feed them. It is a fact, that since 1985, the yield per acre of nearly every crop has reached its maximum and they only because of irrigation. No increase in land for agriculture has ensued even before 1985 and in fact the amount of land dedicated to agriculture is decreasing as the owners sell it for more profitable pursuits. In fact, if the government did not subsidize many of our most efficient crops, they would also be converted to more profitable uses. The fact is we have only so many seats in our theater and they are filling fast and the movie is already running.
