A recent visit to my local Walmart I discovered they have installed 4 new self checks w/ long belts to load onto. This Bringing a store total of 14 such devices.
Today using another entrance I saw they have added 8 more at other end of store, total 22. which was about what they had for registers.
This is a great savings for store staffing which has been thin anyway .
I do not care for them given the reliability of the machines. Hannaford in Westbrook has 4 and 2 more on way .At any time at least one is crashed if not two.
At Walmart I saw three staff supervising the machines.
