It was Thomas Jefferson who penned the Declaration of Independence. In it he said, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. – That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed”.
That all men are created equal is certainly not self-evident and in fact is not true. Jefferson plagiarized this content from his fellow Virginian, an attendee at the Constitutional Convention but who refused to sign the finished document and fought strongly for its defeat. The full context of his plagiarized quotation was “all men are created equal under the law. Quite a significant difference because the law is a product of men, not God. God’s only law, if you are a Christian, Jew, or Muslim is ‘thou shalt not steal”. In the Constitution of the United States and the constitutions of every State in the Union, the only mention of stealing is the government’s power to tax.
You will note that nowhere in the Declaration or the Constitution are Responsibilities mentioned. Before there were governments there were families and the responsibility to protect life was assigned by natural selection to the male, who was stronger than his mate and not debilitated in his protector capacity by childbearing. When a family gathered into tribes, the government of the tribe was left to the males of the families and as they grew larger to the elders of the family. The only adjudication necessary was the fair distribution of the tribe’s daily food supply and the punishment of those who took more than their share.
If the government received its “just powers from the consent of the governed”; why is it then that the government has abused the power it was given and continues to adopt others not given while at the same time usurping the freedom of the people? $$$$$$$$$$$
